WHY YOU SHOULD KEEP YOUR BICYCLE CLEAN
If there is one thing you can do to prolong the life of your bike, it is keep it clean.
A basic clean can easily be done at home but for a thorough job it is recommended that you take your bike to your local bike mechanic. They will remove the chain and the cassette which allows them to clean everything much more effectively than can be done at home with all the parts still on the bike.
Keeping your bike parts properly cleaned and lubricated is a crucial step in maintaining good performance of your bike. Lubrication protects moving parts from excessive wear caused by friction and prevents them from seizing. Correct lubrication will also help keep rust and corrosion at bay.

When cleaning your drivetrain take extra care to not get any degreaser on the rotors. Disc brake pads are susceptible to contamination so to maintain optimal performance of your braking system care is required to ensure contamination does NOT take place.
- When working on your drive train wear a pair of disposable rubber gloves and remove them when cleaning the rest of the bike. This will save your seat and bar-tape or grips from unnecessary getting covered in grease later on in the cleaning process.
- If you have disc brakes, don’t apply any lubricant or grease onto the braking surface or your brake pads, EVER.
